Deleting messages on my MacBook without deleting them off my phone

I signed into iMessages on my MacBook Pro but now I am low on storage. I signed out of my iCloud on iMessages on my MacBook Pro but still shows there are GB of storage on my MacBook Pro. If I delete them from the storage settings on my MacBook Pro after being signed out, will the messages stay on my phone. I want to keep my convos in iMessage on my iCloud and phone but remove them from my MacBook Pro to save storage space.
