Apple charged my free apple pencil

I just paid my ipad which I bought using the apple education store. Everything went smoothly until 10 minutes later apple charged me for the apple pencil. I am so upset right now because from what I understand, the pencil was supposed to be free!! Please anyone explain this.

Assuming that you have encountered an offer that includes an Apple Pencil, the purchase invoice will include the retail cost of the Apple Pencil - however, the iPad cost will have been reduced by the same amount.

As such, you have not been disadvantaged - as the total invoice cost, that has been charged to your Credit Card, will still be no more that the original cost-price of the iPad prior to the equivalent discount being applied. Effectively, you have both a new iPad and Apple Pencil for the cost of the iPad alone.

Apple invoices in this manner to avoid potential fraud - where a new iPad is subsequently returned for full refund without also returning the Pencil.

For starters, nothing is free from Apple. Are you referring to the limited time offer Buy Mac or iPad, get a gift card up to $150 from the Education Store? If so, Your gift card will be sent to your email address within 24 hours of your purchase being shipped or confirmed for pickup at an Apple Store, not directly applied to your order.

Where do you see that the pencil is free? What country are you in?
