iBooks Syncing Last Read Across Devices?

Does anyone have an issue where your books aren’t syncing between devices where you last stopped reading? I assume iBooks is like kindle where if I left off on page 87 on the kindle, it would give me an option to start on page 87 if I were to open the kindle app on my iPhone, but it isn’t like that on my iBooks. I leave off on page 90 on my iPad and my iPhone books starts on like page 4. Is this an ongoing issue or is there something wrong with my settings?
