This is new - formerly it simply suggested "may not support point to point encryption", but now states that "This browser is not supported". Some messages are missing and certain messaging features are not available. Try using another browser or mobile device.

Which messages are missing? (Since I'm never going to install the Messenger App, will they stay missing?)
Facebook had made a change on their backend that screwed up the ability to use Safari when in Dark Mode, so I suspect they are currently working on updating their backend to resolve that problem. While that happens, you can expect Safari support to be down until they get it fixed. I would expect that this is something they want to resolve quickly since a large part of their users access their service using Safari.
And the problem continues under Sequoia and the latest version of Safari. I'm pretty sure Facebook doesn't' care...
