HomePod Equivalent to Amazon Drop-In

I just outfitted the house with HomePods in each room and was surprised to find that there isn't a way to connect to real-time two-way conversations in a manner similar to Alexa's Drop-In feature. Sure, you can use intercom to announce a message to the house or a particular room, and then reply via intercom, but that requires a Siri command each time and a delay, rather than just opening a line to have a conversation.

Are there any plans to add this pretty obvious functionality in the near future? Otherwise looks like a return.
