I am trying to play a New York Times game, but the numbers overlay that I use to navigate the screen will cover only one or two elements. I have had this problem before, and have managed to resolve it with multiple efforts to log on and instruct, "show numbers repeatedly." No dice tonight.

Wondering if using the "Grid" overlay would be more helpful ?

The grid overlay is more confusing than useful for me. But I managed to answer my own question by contacting the nyt. The developers of the game recognize assistive tech no longer works with Strands. While they are working to solve their problem, the nyt gave me a workaround.
