Unlocked notes no longer opens after iOS 18 update

I have same problem. Unlocked notes are fine on my phone, but locked notes will not open with iOS 18. When I try to unlock them, it freezes the notes app.

I have the opposite problem on iPadOS 18. My unlocked Notes open in ipados 18, but I cannot unlock my locked Notes. So I unlocked them in ios17 on my iphone, but still can’t open them in 18. I’m not going to load ios18 on my iPhone until I get this issue resolved.

I have exactly to same problem. This is very inconvenient.

On iPhone 16Pro Max, I just upgraded to iOS 18.1 and I cannot access my locked notes. The normal password says it’s the “on the phone” password and it needs my iCloud password for notes. It still will not open saying incorrect password.

Same on my wife‘s iPhone 16 pro with iOS 18.1. She has a locked note with a custom password that will not open anymore, phone keeps claiming the wrong password was entered. Same happens on her MacBook (which is in an older version of macOS) and on iCloud.com.

Somehow Apple must have changed the password verification or messed up the encryption.

This is exactly what’s happening to me… have you or anyone else found a remedy for this problem? I’m going to contact apple and see if they can hopefully do something about this.
