How do I fix incorrect Screen Time on iPhone after iOS 18 update?

As soon as I updated to iOS 18, my screen time notifications and limits started going crazy. When I checked in to the settings, it showed that my screen time was 13 hours (this would not have been possible as I was not on my phone for more than 1 hour that day). I scrolled back a few days and my screen time had also skyrocketed - anywhere from 10 hours a day to 21 hours a day. My screen time is usually no more than 3 1/2 hours a day, so this is weird.

This morning, I checked my screen time and it said I had 7 hours of screen time, even though my phone was powered off through the whole night.

(EDIT: I just want to add the things I’ve already tried to do)

  • Turn off and on the screen time settings
  • Power phone off and on
  • Force reset phone

How do I fix this?

This seemed to be happening to me as well. I believe in my case, the numbers were becoming inflated because of the StandBy feature. When I charge my phone overnight, I stand it on its side to allow it to go into StandBy mode which displays a clock and other widgets like an alarm clock. It seems like screen time is counting this towards my daily screen time. You can see in my chart where between the hours of 12-6am, it seems like the phone was in use the entire time according to the grey bar which corresponds to “other” apps.

Hi all,

Thanks for all of your replies and feedback. I’m relieved to hear that I’m not the only one this is happening to. I’ve resorted to leaving my phone on all night, just on “sleep” or “do not disturb” mode to silence notifications, and it has worked for me.

What I suggest is visiting this page:

Product Feedback - Apple

  • Select iPhone or whatever product this issue affects you on (I picked iPhone)
  • Fill out the personal information
  • In the “Feedback Type” dropdown, select “Bug Report”
  • In the “Comments” box, I wrote “Please refer to this Apple community forum for my specific issue: Screen time bug after updating to iOS 18. - Apple Community

Hopefully, if enough of us bring this to Apple’s attention, a fix can be made.

Have a nice day!

Hello,

Yep same issue here, I've had this issue for the past few days, originally I that it was counting the apps running in the background, but then when I woke up at 2 AM, it said I was on my phone for 2 hours, apparently on Chrome, Maps, YouTube, Messages, and others, even though I was asleep and closed all the apps. Hopefully they fix/patch this bug/glitch in a future update.
