Since upgrading my iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPad Pro 12.9” 4th Gen to iOS18 the books widget on both devices no longer displays the cover art of the book I am currently reading… only a blank square.
anyone else having this problem?

Yeah I only have audiobooks too. The cover shows within the Apple Books App, just not the widget.

Happens to me too, but only on books which do not have a cover art image. For me it then displays a white background with the books icon:
Up until iOS 18, it would display the generated cover, as it's show in the library:
My books do have cover art images, so dunno what’s going on.

Me too. In the past, it’s been only specific books. Sometimes the next iteration of iOS fixes it. Sometimes, removing all synced, side loaded books from my iPhone. Syncing without books again. Reboot phone, resync books with iTunes.
Other times, I’ve had to delete the books from my library (but not from the folder they’re in), then sync phone. Then reboot computer & phone and add books back to library, then re-sync to phone. 🤷🏻♂️
Mine also. And on CarPlay. I deleted the books app and reinstalled. No dice. I think we’ll have to wait until Apple updates the books app. The frustrating part is that it’s background so, it’ll just start working and you’ll never know
For me, the cover art of audiobooks isn't showing at all
The app (free) BookPlayer’s widget works just fine 🤷🏻♂️. I don’t read books on my device, only audiobooks, but I assume it’s the same for the widget. Apple Books seems to be broken
That’s what we’re saying. Also, since 18.0.1 bookplayer also isn’t working
