CarPlay not working with iPhone 16 Pro
I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to a 16 Pro, and the new phone will not connect to my 2018 Mazda CX-5 with CarPlay. When I plug it in, it charges but makes no sign of connecting.

I am so disappointed! My new iPhone 16 Pro does not work connect to my Carplay in my Toyota CHR. Had I known this, I would have upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro instead. :(

Someone share on another thread Apple CarPlay Not Working in iOS 18.0 - Apple Community that privacy restrictions need to be enabled for the CarPlay to work and that resolve the issue for me so do check it initially I thought it might be some major issue with my car infotainment but thanks gods it just a setting that was turned off for the reference my car is Toyota Camry and my iPhone is 16 pro.
I finally fixed it by actually turning on Content and Privacy Restrictions and then Allow for CarPlay
I don’t know why it was turned off after installation of my old phone’s backup. When I turned it on all of my old settings were there. My car is a 2022 Avalon Hybrid
Same here! Had I known this, I would have never upgraded.
I prefer my old ihpone that worked with carplay that this!
Apple needs to fix it!!
I have tried calling apple support, connecting bluetooth, changing cables, updating the software and nothing has work so far!
I am so dissapointed

Dear Colleagues,
i’ve been experience the same problem to connect my Iphone 16 Pro with my car and have the car play working properly. As a result a called Apple Support. Here is the troubleshooting conducted in order to make it work:
This should work with bluetooth. Good luck.
In order to get my iPhone 16 pro connected to CarPlay I had to click on "forget phone" for every phone that had ever connected to my CarPlay. Once I did that it connected without issue.
Hi All. I upgraded from iPhone 13 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max and had same issues with Apple CarPlay. I had bought USB-A to USB-C adapters and kept getting ‘Overcurrent Detected’ message in my vehicle. After reading article in 9 to 5 found out the cable we use must be able to transfer data, not just charge the phone. I bought the Belkin charger from this list and CarPlay works perfectly now!
I also notice my iPhone 16 pro disconnects carplay(wireless) time to time. I used Iphone 11 pro max before the upgrade and never had this issue. My car is Mitsubishi Outlander 2023
I agree. I bought the Pro 16 and tried everything to connect to CarPlay on my CRV. It was very frustrating as the other home phones were still connecting as before. I researched for a couple of days making sure the settings were correct, etc. But even though I was reluctant at first, "forgetting" ALL the phones in CarPlay did the trick. I had a cable that was brand new and didn't work. It just charged. So I bought a second cable from the local Apple Store (they also checked my new phone) to make sure their cable would charge and transmit data. But when I "forgot" all the phones in my CRV and then set up the 16 again in CarPlay, both cables worked! I forgot all phones that had been connected both via CarPlay and those that were only (or also) connected by Bluetooth.
After more than two hours online with Apple Support and a senior manager of their tech support, we were unable to get my 2019 Mercedes to get CarPlay to start up with my new iPhone 16 Pro. Today I finally solved the issue by purchasing a USB-C to Lightening adapter as many here have done, as well as completely rebooting the Mercedes Benz infotainmant system inside the vehicle by going to "System", then going to "Reset". I hope this is helpful to other Apple users. For many vehicles your Apple CarPlay may not work properly unless you reboot your internal car entertainment system software. Unfortunately this also means having to re-setup all the internal settings of the car to your liking.
The Bluetooth in the car may not be multi-link meaning that you cannot have controls designed for dialing and accessing contacts connected to your phone and concurrently allowing a Bluetooth Car Play connection. Review the CX-5 owners manual and check with the Mazda Service department to determine if Mazda has released a CarPlay firmware update for your vehicle, or if the Mazda CarPlay implementation in 2018 is not compatible with CarPlay in iOS 18.

You need a USB C cable that is capable of data transfer. Some of them can only charge but there are specific ones that are also data cables and this is what you need to make CarPlay work in your vehicle. Amazon has tons, I got these and tested them today - work perfectly, connected with no issue:
I have had same problem and someone suggested to uninstall iPhone from CarPlay and reinstall and pair it with car again and happy to say that for now couple of days things works just fine.
you may want to try that.
I have the same issue. Cannot create a wired CarPlay connection in my Opel Astra. Apple Support referred to my Opel dealer for a software update. However Opel has no update available. My car does not support wireless CarPlay. When does Apple provide a solution?
