I cannot enter passcode in iphone beyond 1 number after activating voice control

After activating voice control (without putting in any short codes/cuts), I cannot now get back into my iphone. Have managed to get to the passcode screen but only one number has successfully been entered. Have tried the suggested methods of tap-to-select and double-tap-to-type to enter the passcode.

No I do not have Siri activated.

Please please don't go through the steps of turning on and practicing VoiceOver as this does not work if you're locked out - found this on a previous cry for help from someone and this is a little like closing the gate after the horse has bolted!

Good suggestions welcomed.
