Mac Contacts stopped syncing with iCloud

I sync all my devices with iCloud (and only iCloud), but one of my MBPs fails to sync Contacts.

When I disable Contacts in the iCloud settings, there are no contacts at all. When I enable Contacts in iCloud again, the old, unsyncing version of the contacts and Last Import comes back and still doesn't sync.

This old version must be saved in a file somewhere on the MBP, but I can't find a way to remove it a force a clean refresh of contacts from iCloud. Is there a way to force a clean reset?

This a appears to be the same problem as this unresolved and closed discussion: iCloud Contacts suddenly wrong on my Mac;… - Apple Community

I'm on a MacBook Pro 14-inch 2023 with Sonoma 14.7. Thanks!!!
