Preventing undesired text replacement on Mac

I have activated text replacements on my iPhone and IPad and they work wonderfully, but on my Mac things go awry because whenever a word that I type includes a shortcut, then it gets substituted before I finish writing that word. Example: th is my shortcut for this, but if I want to write the word “thug” on my Mac, then it automatically substitutes for “thisug” before I can finish the word. Would you know how to help me with this? Is de-activating text replacements only on my Mac the sole solution to this problem? Or is there any other way that I can keep my text replacements on my Mac and avoid the automatic substitution before I finish writing words?

Lmk and thanks!
