homepod biggie starts and stops playing random songs and talks for no reason

My stereo pair of large new (er) style HomePods have begun to have a mind of their own. They start and stop constantly, Siri will begin speaking as if she's been asked to play music and sometimes just turn the volume up all the way even if I'm trying to fight it and turn it down. I've reset them to factory specs more than once. Nothing is working and I have $600 in speakers just unplugged in my living room. This all started before I updated the software to the latest OS, but since I've updated it, they seem to be even worse.

Ideas? Other than a baseball bat to these possessed piles....?
