My wife opened an email she thought was from me as the sender had the same name. The email had our address, her full name and number along with an attachment.
This is a scam going around a lot I hear.
she read the email and opened the attachment on her phone. Is she comprised? Malware now on her phone and data being stolen ?

No opening a link will not compromise your iPhone at all. The only time a problem would occur is if you provided personal information after clicking that link. What did happen was that you made the scammer aware that you clicked the link, so you can expect more scam messages as they think they have found a person willing to believe the messages that they send.
There are thousands of scams going around on email, messages. Just don't open anything that you might think is a scam or spam. Unknown if you have been compromised
