Mail.app shows empty gmail folders, but they are not

I am using Mac OS 14.7 (23H124) and Mail.app version 16.0 (3776.700.51.11.1).

All of a sudden, Mail.app shows as empty one gmail folder and all of its subfolders.

This email folders are set as "to show" in the Google Mail preferences.

When I visit those folders using a web browser, they are not empty.

There are no active filters set on Mail.app.

I rebooted, took all the accounts offline then online again, etc. but nothing worked: those folders contain messages that Mail.app does not show.

Is there anyone who knows a solution?

Looking into ~/Library/Mail/etc, I noticed that the root of the subfolders shown as empty (mailbox in Mail.app terminology) was named X-2 instead of simply X.

The solution was to remove and re-add the Google account as suggested above. However, it would be interesting to identify the cause of this issue.

Remove your Gmail account from Mail and re-enter it using the Google option as long as you have IMAP set on Google servers.
