iPhone 16 Pro Max Screen Occasionally Displays Glitch Lines

Last weekend I bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max 512gb, and I’ve noticed that sometimes when I tap the display while it’s in Always-On mode, a few glitch lines briefly appear before disappearing. This happens randomly and not every time. So I’m concerned that the screen might be failing. What should I do about this?

Small detail that I’ve noticed maybe is worth pointing out.

I’m not sure if it is coincidence but the last 3 occasions that have happened to me on my phone has been when I was inside a car.

Other uses have said how it might be related with automatic brightness and maybe I see why?

since when you are inside a moving car the lighting slightly changes inside specially at night with street lights and traffic, but it has also happened during the daytime with cloudy weather where lighting is almost never changing.

it has happened to me also in a concert with lighting changing all the time.

I hate iphone 16 now. Its so annoying. Cant even type correctly and keep missing words. I have to type it very slowly to keep my words correctly. I called apple support and didnt help anything. I went to the store, they took off my screen protector and told me to buy one from them which is $40. Thats ridiculous! I had ip13 with no problem with any screen protectors. I hope apple can help this problem soon bc im so frustrated and I paid too much on the phone too 😡

As I had just bought the IPhone 16 pro max 265gb it to has had some screen glitches with lines and randomly plays YouTube whenever it connects to a Bluetooth item like my car even when I don’t have YouTube in the background or pulled up I went and switched it out for the same Verizon or phone but this one is also doing it but worse than my first one!

I bought a one terabyte 16 Pro Max and transferred to green my data from my 14 Pro Max. The glitches started from the get-go. Would be totally random and very quick. But still very annoying. I messaged apple and they said to return the phone since the new update didn’t fix anything. I returned the phone transferred my new data and the glitches are still happening. Must be a software thing. I will try to turn off the always on display.

I am facing the exact same issue right out of the box, and I was in the Facebook Messenger app when I first noticed it. My brain straight away went to thinking this is a hardware issue. Later, I realised it could also be caused by bugs in the display driver. I had a chat with Apple support. They asked me a bunch of questions and told me you could take it to an Apple Authorised Repair Center where they could inspect it and maybe offer a replacement. I am not very keen on getting the display replaced on my brand-spanking new phone. It hurts my heart. If they are going to give me a brand-new replacement, I am okay with it. I was waiting for a software update to fix it. Yesterday, I completed the 18.2.1 update. While the phone software feels smoother, I have today noticed on two occasions random flashes of vertical lines. This time, white in colour. I have seen in the past all colour combos. Green white, mix, etc. I am still unable to pinpoint if it’s a hardware or a software issue. A software issue doesn’t bother me so much.

I purchased on the 15th of October 2024 and November it started showing me same glitch, I chatted with apple representative and discussed over call to one if them the same they started saying its something to do with my icloud space etc. I was using IPhone 6plus for past 8years and I never had any issues. This is something with the software I feel like iPhone has become a joke now.

It’s happening all over the world because I bought my iPhone 16 Pro max last Saturday and I’ve noticed it glitch but I didn’t take it for anything then yesterday and last night it happened again so I contacted the store I bought it from so its happening all over the world, but I don’t wanna change my iPhone because I’m already comfortable with this one and also the screen is very laggy when typing. I hope it’s a software issue and not an hardware.

I have the same issue with my 16pro max. Unbelievable that since appearance of the problem Apple hasn't been able to solve it or at least admit that such defect exists. I'm extremely disappointed with such attitude to clients. I really doubt now to buy new iPhones in future.

Welcome to the Club Mutu Seet! I’ve read many experiences like yours. Some people say that replacing the board fixed the issue, while others, like you, say it didn’t, which personally makes me think it’s definitely a software problem. We’ll have to wait for Apple to resolve it, and if this behavior is bothersome, some recommend turning off the always-on display.

In iOS 18.3.2 the problem persists. I thought I was the only one with this problem, but it turned out to be an obvious problem. I just bought an iPhone 16 pro max and started to worry because I didn't drop or repair the phone. as it turns out this is a really big Apple problem

Literally brand new iPhone 16 pro max. Fresh out of the box. Just got it today, literally just finished transferring over from my old phone. My screen is glitching like crazy and I JUST got this phone. Haven’t even had a chance to drop it or be rough with it, it’s literally fresh out of the box and already glitching.
