Digital audio output on Apple Music with external DAC

Hi all, I've connected my Mac Mini M2 (fully updated) to my external DAC with an usb-a usb-b cable to listen to high definition music with apple music.

Before this connection I used an apple airport express and I used to select output audio on apple music app (airport express appears in the output options).

With the new connection I can see the audio output in the system audio menu (I mean in the tray icon) but not in the audio output of the apple music app.

Is it normal? I used to listen music with external dac but listen to the system sound with other loudespeakers... thanks!!
