Can iCloud sync files in real time?

I am having trouble with iCloud syncing files in real time. I am trying to maintain plaint text notes on iCloud using iAWriter, I jot down these notes on iPhone, iPad & Mac; Technically the cloud sync works fine when I open the notes-immediately fetches the latest update from the cloud.

My issue is, I am trying to automatically copy these notes folder else where as a backup which isn't happening in real time; I manually have to open the files in order for the automation script to detect changes and run the script. Since I have tons of text files, I can't open each file to backup.

Can iCloud download the file changes immediately and download it from the cloud?

I haven't had much experience with Sequoia, yet, but Sequioa's iCloud Drive may help. In the new macOS 15 Sequoia, you get much more control. In Sequoia, if you right click on a file in your iCloud Drive folder, then you see this pop-up menu:

I've highlighted one choice, "Keep Downloaded," which generates a new icon. When you choose this for a file, it prevents the file from being removed, so the newest version should always be local to your Mac. I think.

See if that works better, and let us know…
