Manually adding an email address to block list

I can not seem to add an email to the block list unless its an existing contact. On the settings app > mail > blocked there is an +Add button. However, apple only searches info from the existing contact list. I want to to be to add an email address to the blocked list without it being in my list of contacts as i dont want pest and fraudulent email addresses anywhere near my contacts.
