Why had safari gone painfully slow on iPhone?

Anybody else experienced Safari slow down to the point it won’t load a page? It just constantly hangs, and on some occasions doesn’t even display the loading bar, or the X which would indicate it’s still loading.

I’ve had to resort to using Google Chrome, which is lightening fast in comparison. It never used to be like that until using iOS18.
