Is this something the company would roll back? I looked it up: been a year since the implementation of this ridiculous policy.
I decided to do the only reasonable thing I could: walk out of the Apple Store and not buy an iPhone until they change this.
That’s your choice. I chose differently.
The easiest way to do it is to walk into an Apple Retail Store and purchase an unlocked iPhone using your Apple Card. When you get home, immediately contact an Apple Card specialist at Goldman Sachs Bank and ask them to convert the purchase to an installment plan. If necessary you can request a supervisor and they’ll be able to put the purchase on installments.
I did my purchase of an iPhone 16 Pro Max through my carrier, AT&T. Why? I got a much higher trade in value for my iPhone than I would have received from Apple. The plan is 36 months, doesn’t show on a credit report and monthly charge is around $5 a month for the iPhone. My wife traded in her iPhone 12 Pro on a 16 Pro and is getting it for free after trade in. Free is good in my book.

Yes, the installments under ACMI are interest free for 24 months, the scheduled completion of the ACMI. If you’re referring to the AT&T installments, yes, they are interest free also for the 36 months to complete the plan and then unlock the phone.

The CSR I happened to get had no idea and when I asked whether she could at least find out, even though I knew I'd have to contact GS myself, she was no help and I wasn't in a pushy mood. I did actually buy the phone at T-mobile (just because the guys were incredibly helpful and I got plenty so forfeiting the 3% was ok with me. But I will use your advice for a tablet. I may have to go back to T-mobile to have them add it as a line (I love being able to use my iPhone number on it because of a hand injury!)
Very thoughtful of you to even provide the GS number. I did have a little trouble understanding the virtual card/not so clear % and relationship to Apple Pay/Wallet (and GS is not good at chatting) but I like your answer. I've always paid for phones in full, since I do that for everything, but lately I decided that's silly.
That is actually helpful. And are the installments interest-free, as it usually is with Applecard purchases at Apple?
