Mail app always has issues setting up new accounts on Cpanel hosts
I set up an email account on a hosting service using Cpanel. This is a very common configuration that many people do and that I have done many times on many different hosting providers / many different Macs/iPhones.
Very often, when attempting to set up a new account on either a Mac or an iPhone, I get an error saying "unable to verify account name or password."
This problem has occurred for me many times over the past decade, and I see many posts about it all over these forums and all over many other sites. People come up with resolutions that sometimes work for some people, but only randomly.
The real solution seems to be: try all those things, keep restarting, keep deleting the account and trying agin, keep resetting various caches etc and hope that eventually something will work.
Eventually I usually get in. Currently I cannot get past this error, despite trying every trick I can find anywhere on these forums or on deep web searches.
How can this problem possibly have been so bad for so many users for so many years? Is there any actual solution?
Here are some sample posts from the past decade (there are many more!). I have tried everything in all these pages and all of the comments. Still cannot set up a simple email account on Mail app. Why?
