TurboTax 2024 and Monterey 12.7.6 OS

I have a MacPro early 2015 and it will only update to Monterey 12.7.6.

TurboTax wrote me: "We’ll be updating our macOS system requirements for TurboTax Desktop products

for tax year 2024. For 2024 tax returns prepared with TurboTax Desktop

for Mac, macOS Ventura 13 or later will be required. At TurboTax, the security of our customers’ data is a top priority. Apple has announced they will no longer provide security updates or support for macOS Monterey 12 as of November 2024. As a result, our latest TurboTax Desktop products for Mac won't support macOS Monterey 12."

Is there anything that can be done or do I need to buy a new laptop to get Ventura 13 or later OS?

Thank you in advance for your time and attention to my inquiry.

I just made this same mistake. I downloaded the turbotax software to my MacBook air w/ monterey then the software wouldn't run. Now I have $70 software I can't use. What did you end up doing?

Well I was one of the dumb ones that logged down and purchased TurboTax without thinking, I have used it for so many years now and used it on my Apple. I didn’t read through every last bit of fine print, I agree they need to have a little flash or something come up that says make sure you’re operating system is Compatible, I have tried H&R Block and did not like it, I don’t like that the online services don’t save all your data, I am done with TurboTax now that really made me mad! Trying so hard to save money and end up wasting it on some thing that doesn’t even work and I’m not buying a new computer because my old one still works fine

Turbo Tax should have been warning users what the requirements are to run their program, the downloads shouldn't work if you don't have the correct platform. I got lucky and checked it out before downloading TurboTax is why I switch to H & R Block after over 30 years with them.

IntuitApple does this on a regular basis. The last two MBPs I bought were because my old one couldn’t be upgraded to an OS that TurboTax for the year couldn’t be run on. One year, I simply used a friend’s newer Mac. But it is worth it so I don’t have to enter the previous year’s information into some new tax program manually.

The real scandal here isn’t about their upgrade issue, it’s the fact that Intuit have lobbied the government to keep the IRS from making its own tax prep software and manipulate the complaints by making a handicapped free version available. There’s a good article about this history of TurboTax in ProPublica that you can Google.

I just bought one from Sam's club and I did ask them prior to purchase it, I even asked for the CD and they said it doesn't come with it, I also asked them if it work with my MacOs and they said it should, guess what?! I'm going back tomorrow to return it. I think Turbotax will be loosing tons of money this year for this glitch .

My running system is Monterey 12.7.6 and it does not update to MacOs 13. If Apple is working with Turbo tax to make us buy new computers then I guess someone will be loosing money, and guess what, it ain't gonna be us !

Good advice. I considered this one year but I am concerned about the ability to look up all the past returns, also the regular version of it allows you to do a few alternate versions of returns to do “what if?” Scenarios. I’m a little paranoid too about the security of having that information online forever.
