how can I be sure that I am NOT using iCloud on my new imac computer

Just purchased my new iMac (Sonoma 14) computer. Confused about iCloud--how to ascertain whether or not I am using iCloud. I want to take steps to assure I am NOT using iCloud for anything. How can I do that?

Thank you.

If you aren't signed into iCloud then you are not using any iCloud features and there won't be the option that I described in my previous post.

Note that if you aren't signed into iCloud you won't be able to use ANY iCloud features, including the ability to locate/protect your Mac if it is ever stolen as described in Set up Find My on Mac - Apple Support

FoxFifth, so it sounds like you are telling me that when the "sign into iCloud box appears asking to sign in with my Apple ID, and I have never followed through with that, always choosing to cancel the process at that point, then I am not and never have been "in the cloud" and as long as I don't sign in then I will not have to wonder if I am using

That's correct. If you aren't signed into iCloud you aren't using any part of iCloud.

Thank you so much FoxFifth for taking time to help. I followed your directions but after clicking on my username, there was no iCloud in the list or sidebar but a box did pop up asking to sign in to iCloud. I have not done that because it sounds like if I do that I am essentially using iCloud which I do not want. Am I supposed to sign in to iCloud in order to NOT choose to use it? I also did not see in the side bar listings any place to turn off any of the items in the list to choose not to use with iCloud. Sorry I am very unTech-y (also late 70's so not too with all the

terms etc.).

FoxFifth, so it sounds like you are telling me that when the "sign into iCloud box appears asking to sign in with my Apple ID, and I have never followed through with that, always choosing to cancel the process at that point, then I am not and never have been "in the cloud" and as long as I don't sign in then I will not have to wonder if I am using

iCloud. I just wanted to be sure that there was nothing I had to undo or turn off on my new computer to remain out

of "the cloud". I appreciate your explaining the downside of that but at this point, I still prefer to remain "out of the cloud". Again, I thank you for your time and shared expertise.
