Unable to add PayPal and Venmo to Apple Wallet

I used to be able to add my PayPal and Venmo cards to my Apple Wallet. I had to do a factory reset on my iPhone and now I cannot add these cards. I get to the screen to accept the TOS and it throws an error. Both services are the same company. Has anyone else had this issue and was able to resolve it?

Sorry, both Venmo and PayPal have credit and debit cards. The PayPal debit card and the Venmo debit card is by Bancorp. The PayPal and Venmo Credit cards are issued by Synchrony Bank.

I understand people have strong feelings about PayPal and their Venmo brand. It was more the other way around, PayPal didn’t support Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. But the hatchet was buried long ago.

I have all four cards and they work fine with Apple Wallet and PayPal and I can remove them and add back without issues.

Apple doesn’t control adding the cards to Apple Wallet. The issuing bank, controls the verification, tokenization and identity confirmation. Once the card completes verification, the bank or TSP sends Apple servers the dynamic token and Apple adds it to the Secure Element.

The only other party involved in the verification process is the Payment Network Operator (Visa, Mastercard, etc.). The PNO may have had a fraud alert on the cards.

I hope my explanation clears up a few things.

Same thing here. I removed both my PayPal and Venmo cards to re arrange some of my 10 Apple Pay debit cards and both Venmo and PayPal Mastercards decline and say “card not added contact card issuer for more information”. I already contacted both PayPal and Venmo and associates seem to have no idea what’s the problem. All of my other cards re-added without any issues. Already factory reset my phone too, so it’s just gotta be something wrong with PayPal the company. Just did away with both accounts regardless since PayPal is a awful company

He tried to add debit cards, that’s the only type of card PayPal and Venmo offer is a MasterCard debit card. Both Venmo and PayPal do not have any say in Apple Pay and no one even a manager has no clue what’s the problem it’s just how apple works with this merchant as PayPal, obviously Apple does not like having any PayPal cards re-added to Apple Pay once you click remove from Apple Wallet and try to add card again. It’s biased in my opinion, but I don’t really care because I don’t like PayPal anyway. Firstbank did it to me once but for some reason the error card not added contact issuer for more information went away after the third attempt of adding FirstBank debit card. All of my other seven debit cards have no problems adding to Apple Pay though, which just goes to show it’s just hit or miss. Also, to mention I tried To experiment and I made a brand new Venmo and PayPal account and even brand new debit cards from PayPal does not add to Apple Pay and gives that same error card not added. Obviously Apple, I suppose banned PayPal cards from my phone. Kind of funny because back in the day, Apple had quite some “beef” with PayPal so it doesn’t surprise me

Ok yeah they both have credit card options, I see that now, but of course you have to go through extra steps to get them. I was referring to your response to JoshVero when you asked if it’s debit cards or credit cards He tried to add, and if you would’ve read the screenshot you would’ve seen “Venmo Debit Card”. Like I said I’ve made a brand new account five times and even all the brand new cards with a completely different number do not add to my Apple wallet at all anymore, both Venmo and PayPal. If you can explain that I would be surprised. Maybe you’re not having problems but out of all eight of my debit cards, I have Cash App, DoorDash, 2 for Chime, Wells Fargo and Capital One, they all re-added no problem just Venmo and PayPal I suppose banned from it and it’s been a month since I’ve tried adding again. I mean, creating a brand new account and adding either Venmo or PayPal debit card gives me that same error card not added and it’s a brand new Debit card and account. I have already contacted both Apple and PayPal and Venmo Support had no help from all three. And of course you’re over here patronizing me cause I’m having an issue most don’t have, and a full factory reset and brand new Venmo and PayPal accounts never fixed it, so forget them.

I’m not here to debate you on who reads more accurately, who knows what a paragraph is, or what will amaze you.

The simple fact is if you created 5 new accounts, each new account was a red flag that fraudsters were attempting to add a card to an Apple Wallet. The PNO, flagged your device (SEID number) as potentially fraudulent and each time you created a new account, the PNO became more convinced that you and your device were involved in fraud.

Why this all matters after the fact, I have no clue. After all, you stated you >>did away with both accounts.<< So, I’m not sure why you’re continuing this conversation. However, if you have questions and still need to add some accounts you haven’t explained, I’m happy to explain how to go about resolving the challenges you’re facing.
