How do I check if my OneTouch backup is working?
Settings show the back up is occurring on OneDrive but I keep getting a popup saying that my data hasn’t been backed up in x number of days.

I made an error. I am using OneTouch on my MacBook Air. For now I’m trying to just back up my computer. I also wonder if I can just house some of my files there to free up space.
Thanks for responding.

Time Machine may not be successful in backing up if there is not enough space on your Mac's system drive.
So, whether or not, you can move enough off that drive to your OneTouch, I can't tell you for sure ... but it must be enough to allow Time Machine to make a local snapshot for backups to be successful again.
You mention both OneDrive and OneTouch. Which is it?
What kind of backups are you doing? Time Machine? Something else?
