Older trackpad with new M4 Mac Mini?

I'm going to purchase a new Mac Mini and am wondering if the trackpad I have now will continue to work with the new computer. The trackpad is about 6 years old, charges via lightning connector, and has firmware version 3.1.1. If I could save a bit of money by not buying a new trackpad, that would be great. I do plan to buy a new keyboard, though.

I don’t know of any reason offhand , why it wouldn’t work, Carla67… should be bluetooth, so when you get your new Mac mini, turn on Bluetooth, set up and use your trackpad as per usual. Just like this :

Set up your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support (CA)

of course, it being Bluetooth, i wouldn’t use it for troubleshooting and it might take a bit o’time to work on first starting up your new Mac Mini, so maybe plug in and use the Lightning to USB cable with your trackpad ( with a usb- A extender cable… easy-peasy)
