Tv os 18 Up Next and Subscriptions issues

The Up Next is entirely confused. It doesn’t recognize installed apps, nor does it recognize when I’ve watched an episode. I must force an Already Watched after watching an episode in some cases even having to selecting the correct app in the list of “Get Apps” the TV very courteously provided.

Why me?

I’ve rebooted, revisited apps, force killed all the apps in memory, all to no avail.

I really don’t want to Reset the device.

For keeping track of your watch history:

Verify that the Apple TV box is still set to Use Playback History.

Settings﹥Apps﹥TV app﹥Use Playback History﹥On

Similar for any other device where you may watch Apple TV/Apple TV+ content.

Select apps that are programmed to be able to connect and Apple-approved to connect to the Apple TV app, those may also have their content (or some of it) listed in Up Next. Availability of supported apps in the Apple TV app - Apple Support

Potentially connected apps have an on-off setting for this integration in: Settings﹥Apps﹥TV app﹥[ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴛᴠ] …

Content may be available from multiple content providers. To select the preferred content provider, select that one on the details page of a movie or TV show, when scrolled down to How to Watch.

If the issue persist after checking the above, then try signing out of your account, then immediately sign in again, to refresh the account properties. If the issue persist even after that, then please contact the Apple Support staff for further assistance.

Thanks for the response. I’ll give you an upvote for thoroughness. Unfortunately I had tried all of those areas, switches and a few more tricks…no go.

I ended up just buying a new unit and going through the rigmarole of resetting up all the passwords. Also not a clean process.

For anyone else doing that setup for a new device, I found the following worked “good enough”:

  1. Delete the relevant app. I deleted Peacock and when I reinstalled it to play its video, it then asked if I wanted to use another device, and that allowed me to use the password manager.
  2. Where that option wasn’t offered after reinstalling other apps, I found bringing up a Remote on an iPad allowed me to use the password app on the device to send the password to the TV app using the remote for the entry.

That got me thrue the setup with minimum pain.

I suppose I’ll need to repeat that game when I resurrect the old TV device.
