Mac Mini M4 Not Supporting 240Hz on 1440p Monitor

Hey everyone,

I recently got my hands on a Mac Mini M4 (base model) and I’m trying to set it up with my MPG ARTYMIS 273CQRX-QD monitor. This monitor can support 240Hz at 1440p, but I’m having some trouble getting it to work.

I bought an Ultra Cable certified HDMI cable, but when I connect my Mac Mini to the monitor, I can only choose a refresh rate of 144Hz at 1440p. I know the monitor can handle 240Hz, (you can check) so I’m not sure what’s going on.

I’ve checked the QR code on the Ultra Cable and it’s real, so I’m not sure if there’s something wrong with the cable or the monitor.

Any tips or advice would be super helpful!

Thank you for the screenshot.

Hold Down [command + F1] Used:

I don't have a macMini in front of me, but what happens when you use this on an external keyboard?: Hold Down [command + F1]

Based on personal experience...

Getting Multiple External Displays:

The J5 USB-C Dual HDMI Docking Station allows for more than two extra monitors. How so? Well, plug in a display projector the Mac using the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter and then plug the J5 hub with 2 HDMI displays (one 4K), and then you'll have 3 external screens. It all mirrors and extends.

Adding a Monitor:

A. Provide a Photo:

Please reply back with a photo of what you are seeing on your screen. IMPORTANT: Blank out personal information (i.e. names and time) by covering it with red-colored rectangle such, through use of the Photos app.

For starters...

B. Mirror the Screen to this External Display:

Performing the following will mirror the Home Screen, and allow you to use it as if it were you laptop's screen.

  • Without Touchbar: Hold Down [command + F1]
  • With Touchbar: Hold Down: [command + dull screen]

My monitor supports 240 Hz at 3840 x 2160 and I have that option available but it’s too small so I run 3008 x 1692 instead which is good. However although I also have 240 Hz available at that resolution the monitor has problems when coming out of standby.

So I’ve had to set it to 120 Hz which is the next available option below 240 Hz. I’m not playing games on my Mac so 120 Hz is fine for me.
