I want to have a different Siri language on my MacBook and iPhone. How do I do this?

Because of Apple Intelligence, I have changed the Siri language setting on my MacBook to English (United States). Hours later I found out that this also changes the Siri language setting on my iPhone as well. Since I want my iPhone to listen to me in my native language, I changed the setting back on my iPhone. Obviously, this changed the setting on my MacBook as well.

I hope that the setting can be changed independently such that I can get access to Apple Intelligence on my Mac, and also have Siri usable on my iPhone. Does anyone know how to change the Siri language setting independently on my devices?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18

@smilin-brian. I thought the same at first. The setting is in the iCloud settings. You have to turn off saving to the cloud of your Siri settings on the device that you want to be different. In my case this is my MacBook Pro. I had to go to System Settings > Apple Account > Saved to iCloud > Siri (turn it off)

Hope this helps.

You'll need to contact Apple directly for an answer to this. I suspect, in order to get Apple Intelligence on your MacBook which required setting it to US English, it will transfer to all devices you own signed into the same Apple Account. This will likely be the case until Apple Intelligence is released in your native language. But you'll need to confirm this with Apple

I reached out to support and they can't help. Apparently, Apple assumes that we use all devices the same and synchronizes the Siri settings across devices. For me, this means that I can't get access to Apple Intelligence on my MacBook, as I need Siri on my phone to be in my local language. The English Siri doesn't understand most of the names of people that I call using Siri, nor does it understand the names of my music playlists. Last but not least, it is next to impossible to understand the street names with English pronunciation.

Fortunately, Apple Intelligence isn't so ground breaking that I would want to go through the pain of using English Siri on my iPhone. I will just patiently wait for my language to be supported (if ever).
