Error message during system installation

I was trying to do an installation from a boot installer onto a Crucial X10 SSD and somewhere toward the end I got this message

Anyone know what this means? I'm beginning to think the drive is faulty as I';ve been able to installer a Samsung T7 SSD.

Thanks very much.

PS This is all that's on the drive when it fails

Make sure to use Disk Utility to erase the whole physical external drive to ensure nothing from the manufacturer remains. Sometimes the manufacturer's do some odd things to the partition table or even hidden areas at the beginning of the drive that can cause issues with the OS. Here is an Apple article showing how to see the physical drive within Disk Utility to erase it completely.

Also make sure the external SSD is connected to the laptop since some docks/hubs may cause problems. Maybe even disconnect all other external devices just in case one of them could be causing a problem. You may also want to try a different USB-C cable and adapter to see if that makes any difference.
