how to select a text box in Pages
I keep getting the cursor. I don't want to edit or input text, I want to resize/move the text box.

Draw an imaginary box with your mouse slightly larger than your Text box and it will select, allowing you to move it. It might prove worthwhile in selection that you visit the Arrange panel and set Text Wrap to None. Then you can move the Text box anywhere you like without an issue.
