I think I permanently broke my ipod trying to fix it? HELP.
So I took my parents' old ipod classic (with their permission) with plans to put my music on it.
Here's the thing. It worked fine. Charged fine, clicked through menus fine, played music fine, it was just my parents' music on it and I wanted my music on it.
- When I connected the ipod to my computer, it would show up in Music and Finder in the devices/locations bar respectively, but when I clicked it, it would just say "device cannot be located" so I couldn't add it to my apple ID or sync it or restore it. All options were greyed out or just not there.
- I tried a whole bunch of stuff over and over again, including going into disc utility to try to restore from there or erase from there. It wouldn't let me do either, just kept saying there was "an unidentified error."
- I switched from my personal laptop to my work laptop. This time is says I need to restore it before I can sync it, but takes literally hours. Meanwhile, the device is not showing up as a connected device in either Finder or Music anymore after I clicked restore, and I'm not convinced it's doing anything at all.
- I eventually unplug it to just try again on my personal laptop, the screen instantly changes to "connect to charger" then "do not disconnect" but isn't showing up in either Finder or Music anymore on my personal laptop either.
- I reboot the ipod. After I reboot it, it tells me it's corrupted and prompts me to restore it, but when I click restore it gives me a 1430 error and then disappears again.
- I try restore in disc utility again, and it won't let me, but it does let me delete.
- This time after I delete it and reboot it again, it tells me "device cannot be located" again when I boot up Music again.
- I go do the "check hard drive for errors" and it's now telling me I have 16,400 reallocs.
- I do the 12 second reboot rather than the 6 second reboot and this time when it prompts me that I have a corrupted ipod plugged in and asks me to restore it, it says "Software for this iPod is not currently available."
So, am I screwed?
