Google calendars not syncing with iOS 18.1.1 unless app is open

Since updating to iOS/iPadOS 18.1.1 I have starting having issues with Google calendar only syncing with my device if I open the Apple calendar app. In the past, Google calendar events that were added on other devices would sync very quickly and show up on calendar widgets on various devices, however since 18.1 the events only sync if I open the Apple Calendar app and leave it open for a bit.

I have restarted the devices. I have deleted and re-added the Google account on those devices. However none of those things seem to fix the issue. I really rely on the calendar widget on my home screen for upcoming meetings/events, but have had to revert to constantly opening the calendar app to check after I missed a meeting earlier this week.

I'm having the issue on an iPhone 16 Pro and iPad Pro, both running iOS 18.1.1

Hoping that this is just a temporary bug that will be sorted soon.
