MacOs Recovery Mode - Forgot Password

I forgot the password I set for recovery mode on my MacBook. I set it up when I lived in Brazil for added security. I can still log in and use my MacBook normally, but I can’t erase or format it, for example, to prepare it for a trade-in. When I try to access recovery mode, it asks for the password, but I don’t remember it. Is there a way to reset or bypass this password?

That is NOT the display for Recovery. That display shows the FIRMWARE LOCK screen.

How/Why did you get there?

if you can not remember your Firmware Lock password, you can not do anything that changes the settings allowing ability to boot from an external drive, or change ownership-level settings. But you can re-install using the previous settings.

Apple can completely ERASE your computer and reset to factory original, PROVIDED you can prove it is not stolen with an unbroken set of sales receipts that include serial number in EVERY case. Apple can not "rescue" any files for you, only Reset.

your other recourse is to stop using that computer.

that's the end of the list.
