Numbers will not quit. Can't shut down computer.

Numbers keeps asking if I want to save a file I have altered when I try to quit. No matter what I click on, the dialogue box keeps coming back.

Normally I would force quit but I'm not being given the option. The paper clip into the hole is not an option with this MacBook or I just don't know how to do it any longer.

Using the latest OS. MacBook is still under warranty. I'm not going crazy yet...

What to do?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.6

I think your spreadsheet is corrupted. I faced this same scenario about a year ago.

I had to force quit Numbers, reopen that spreadsheet and, making NO changes so it wouldn't try to autosave, I exported it as a CSV file and then closed it after verifying the CSV was OK.

I opened a new, blank template, imported the data and rebuilt the formulas but the data was intact.

I had gotten into the habit of reusing the document from the previous month by clearing old data before adding new and I think it just got messed up over time.

Now I start each month using a user template I created so each month is a fresh start.
