How can I stop the 'Updates Available' notification on my MacBook Pro?

How can I disable the 'Updates Available' notification that is now appearing from system preferences since Sequoia? This was removed after High Sierra and it's pretty disappointing to have to ignore this daily now. Even more frustrating is that it comes back if I just drag it off the screen??

Hello, I agree with you, totally. I'm super MAD. Notifications was not the deal when I bought this computer. This was the reason I left Windows. They are windowmising Macos. I use my laptot to work, I don't want to be DISTURBED. If someone still understand the meaning of "working". Or maybe Apple is becoming an entertainment company. Maybe the next laptot will feature a 16*9 screen, lol. Apple support is gonna hear me loud monday.

The numbers of updtates are written in the drop down menu on the top right, that is enough. I update when I schedule my time to do it. Now i seriously regret "upgrading" to sequoia.

Since Apple strongly encourages users to stay up to date with their software I doubt you will get any response. As for the majority of the volunteers here we never recommend skipping and updates as there is often no valid reason to do so.

No valid reasons? You don't have to spend much time on these boards to see how many users are having problems after updates. If Apple wants people to stay up to date then it should admit to the bugs in a release and commit to a date for fixing them. I hold off on all updates for at a few weeks to make sure that the bugs they contain aren't likely to cause me problems.

Here's how I solved this problem:

  • Create a new Focus (the menu is in the top right corner of the screen), I named mine something like "No more Upgrade window" (but a little spicier...)
  • Set the calendar for the focus to be 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM and enabled 7 days/week
  • Add the apps that you actually care to receive notifications from (for example, I just added Slack and nothing else)
  • Voilá you now can live in peace without the stupid pop ups demanding that you upgrade

I am so sick of the constant OS update notifications. I've tried every reddit search and suggestion and every terminal command and nothing works in 15.1.1. I've used Apple computers since 1989 and I've never had a worse opinion of the brand than I do now for this and other reasons. It's feeling very Windows-y around here these days.

Hi damat-le. Thanks for posting this, I have just used these 2 commands then restarted my Mac and, so far, no annoying nag screens. I also submitted a feedback request to Apple. I'm pretty sure it goes against their own development standards to have notifications that you can't mute or turn off!

Thanks again - good solution!

The Update Sequoia 15.1.1 has already been downloaded - full stop

From my experience - once it has been downloaded, there is no stopping it form attempting it to Install

Am confident, that even if you attempt to shutdown the computer, then too it may or may not attempt the installation

Not true. I've not downloaded the update yet but I still get the annoying nag.

Get used to the notifications for updates

It has taken Apple 14 - 15 updates to Sonoma to reach 14.7.2
