Strange Photos Appearing in Photo Booth Library

Hello,

I’m experiencing an unusual issue with Photo Booth on my Mac. I first noticed the problem when I opened the Photo Booth Library located at:

~/Pictures/Photo Booth Library/Originals

Inside this folder, I found that the photos were random and unorganized. The files didn’t seem to match their expected content, and many of them were not manually taken by me.

After discovering this, I took a test photo of my ceiling with the Thermal Camera effect to see if the original photo (a normal photo of my ceiling without an effect) would appear in the Originals folder, and here’s when it got even stranger: instead of the unaltered ceiling photo, a new photo of myself appeared. I did NOT take it myself, although it was taken at around the same timeframe as the ceiling photo.

Could you please assist me with troubleshooting this? I’m unsure why a photo of myself would appear instead of the intended photo.

Thank you for your help!

I have little experience with Photo Booth, but I can tell you that the files in the Photo Booth Library package are not organized for user viewing, but they are meant for use by the app. Surely you noticed that you had to go through an extra menu to look inside the package. That is to discourage messing with the contents. Apple offers no explanation for what's inside.

I notice that my own "Originals" folder is empty, and taking a new picture doesn't change that.
