Q&A: Boot Camp Assistant

Q: Why isn't Boot Camp Assistant in my Mac?

A: Boot Camp is not available on silicon Macs (M-chip). It's only on intel. Check "Utilities" on Finder > Applications, and check "Other" on launchpad.

Q: Can I install Windows versions that came before Windows 10?

A: Yes, you can. However, it only works on old MacOS Versions. If you have a newer MacOS, you can only install Windows 10.

Q: Why do I need to backup my data before partitioning?

A: Backing up your data is important before partitioning, because Boot Camp is different. It installs a windows support software and it can sometimes corrupt files if not backed up. In case something goes wrong, always backup your disk before doing something risky.

It's probably okay to launch Windows if you don't have any important files on your Mac, or if you have another PC with similar data on it. However, this isn't really recommended. If you want to use windows, use a PC or Laptop that supports that OS.

If it's okay with your files at risk being corrupted, go and run Windows. Just, backup and/or transfer your data just to be safe. Bootcamp assistant also requires 42 fee gigabytes, and the storage on your windows may be low. So make sure that your disk has lots of space in it.

But remember, Macs are designed to run macOS. Using Windows on it can cause problems such as unfamiliarity, annoying bugs, etc. Apple made bootcamp assistant mainly for work, for people familiar with Windows, and to experience Windows on Mac.
