Cannot cancel Apple News - get "Your request is temporarily unale to be processed" (multiple times)

I am trying to cancel my Apple News Subscription. I am in the settings> subscriptions> apple news section.

I tap "Cancel Subscription" and then (despite having restarted iphone multiple times) I continue to get "Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later." message.

But I do NOT want to have it renewed for $13 / month.

Has anyone successfully dealt with this? Or is there a way to contact Apple News directly somehow. ugh.
