Macbook air Shell Case: GOOD or BAD?

Hi! I recently bought a Macbook Air M3 (13"). I wanted to also buy a shell case (to protect from scratches, light bumps, and make it less slippery on the bottom).

I saw some videos where it was highly adviced against it because of the added "weight" that could cause the hinges to loosen in the long run. The reasoning was that apple calculated the exact weight for everything and so even a little bit more and it would be too much. In a video it compared the closing of the screen with and without the case and with the case it actually dropped on its own before it was fully closed. Another reason was that a case would cause the screen to have a tiny gap when closed due to the bumps of the case. I'm also skeptical because of the heat, maybe?

Then again I saw that apple sells such shell cases on its website from brands like Otterbox. So how damaging can they really be if they sell them? Of course those are a bit pricey so maybe they are perfectly tailored? I'm a bit confused. No, a lot confused. I'd really like to know if this risk is real or if they are exaggerating.

Thank you so much in advance for any insight.

No one here can guarantee, one way or the other, any cases you use with your MacBook Air, could cause issues down the line. That's a personal decision only you can make.

One option is to contact the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and ask them ... because, should there be a problem, whether or not, the MBA will be covered by Apple, as of the result of using a case, will matter.
