Scan document size in Notes IOS 18.1.1

Does anyone know if I can change the file size of scanned images in the notes app under IOS 18.1.1?

I run my own business and use the Scan documents function in notes to scan all my receipts, then email them to myself as a pdf to save in my accounting system. This has worked fine for years and a typical receipt takes about 150kb of space which is fine. My iPhone 14 updated overnight to IOS18.1.1

When I scanned a receipt this morning it was 4mb, which is far bigger than a photo. I just experimented and took a photo of the receipt, then cropped it and emailed to myslef and it was 920kb.

In then end I took a screen grab of the scanned image, dropped it in a Word doc, printed to pdf and got a 150kb pdf doc. This is so many extra steps. What was a great tool on my iPhone is now useless to me, due to space that will be taken up by the stored docs. Does any one have any solutions. If not I will have to search out a scan App to download and use instead.
