Apple Support for Obsolete Devices

Hi everyone & Apple,

As a long serving Apple user, from the 80's, i have a question for Apple...

I understand and appreciate that technology moves on & devices are updated, renewed etc, the question is why discontinue connectivity, support for old devices? For example, I have a first generation Apple TV which won't connect with iTunes. Yes iTunes was updated to 12xxx but why discontinue the "visibility" & connection if the code for the previous versions was already included?

It would be great if Apple could take some interest in the older devices that were responsible for Apple being a trillion dollar company today, and to launch somekind of "Obsolete Support" site.

I own numerous new Apple devices but I will not bin the older stuff as they were paid for with hard earned... and have served me well throught the years, plus they are gorgeous to look at!!!

I believe that if Apple embraced this initiative, even charge for it, people would welcome it with open arms.

All the best, Arthur

No Apple employees participate in these fellow user-supported and public communities. We cannot speak for Apple as we are simply volunteers who own and use Apple products.

The simple answer is Apple continues to innovate and add features in future operating systems. Older Apple products simply may no longer be compatible or have the necessary processing capacity to support advances in operating systems or security protocols.
