I have iPhone SE (18.1.1), and I am unable to change notification sounds for my Gmail app. I go to Notifications->Gmail>Gmail Notification Settings (which throws me to Google Workspace) >Email notifications>Notification sounds, and choose a sound. Doesn't work. I get some default sound. I go to Notifications>Sounds&Haptics>New Mail and choose a sound. Doesn't work. I still get the same default sound. What's the trick?

Open the Gmail app on your iPhone, tap the 3 lines icon near the top left of the screen, tap Settings, tap Email notifications, tap Notifications sounds, select a sound and tap Done.

Well, strangely, many hours after making these changes, my Gmail notification sounds HAVE changed. So, bizarrely, the change doesn't take place when you command it. I guess my iPhone has to ponder it for a while.
Nope. That just gets me to the Gmail notification settings I tried before. Doesn't change anything.
I just tested on my iPhone again and it changes immediately for me. Didn't need to restart the app or the phone or wait. A test email received within less than 30 seconds after the change worked for me.
