How can I improve the Transparency Mode on my AirPods?

I've been having issues with the Transparency Mode of my AirPods Pro Gen2 buds, little amplification and Transparency Mode that seems to cut in and out.

I have gone through all the chat rooms and Apple Support pages but I have found something that helps greatly. On your iPhone, in Settings, choose Accessibility, then Audio and Visual, and then Headphone Accommodations. On this screen there is a box labelled "Tune Audio For". Click on each of Balanced Tone, Vocal Range and Brightness, and a slider will appear. Move them all to the far right.

This will let the AirPods work best as hearing aids. Now, when you swipe down from top right and get Control Centre, you will find the Amplification and Ambient Noise sliders are now effective. The AirPods Pro now work properly as hearing aids. I have seen no one else mention this as a fix for the Transparency Mode issues, and I wanted to share it.

Also, turn off Conversation Boost as it dulls the sound and reduces amplification, and turn off Conversation Awareness as it can make the sound cut out at times and is intrusive.

These AirPods Pro buds now perform like hearing aids.

I’ve been playing with the AirPods Pro all day and they are still quirky. For several hours they would only stay on Transparency Mode briefly then stop amplifying. In Control Centre I would press Transparency Mode and they would start working again, sometimes for only seconds. Sometimes Control Centre would still indicate they were in Transparency Mode but they would not work. I could press Transparency Mode again and they would work for seconds to a minute. After several hours of this they decided to work properly and have been fine the last hour. Why they decide to work fine at times is still a mystery. However, going to the Headphone Accommodations screen and clicking on all three below “Audiogram” and moving the sliders to the far right gives the best performance so far.

Transparency Mode is quirky. Sometimes the buds will change modes on you. I’ve even had the buds replaced as Transparency Mode stopped working. It usually happens after several months of use. I assumed it was dirt and wax getting into the microphone ports and worked very hard to clean them regularly but the problem persisted. Af times the AirPods would keep cutting out whenever louder noise occurred, like people talking on tv. I assumed it was the buds recognizing speech and muting but couldn’t find any setting change that helped.

I stumbled onto the “Tune Audio For” box and have been blown away away at the performance of them ever since. We need to spread the word on this.

Cheers
