Magic keyboard compatibility

I'm trying to add a new magic keyboard to a 2020 13" MacBook pro 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7. I was able to connect it to Bluetooth and the keyboard is largely working except none of the function key is behaving as expected and the touch ID doesn't work. And I can't seem to find any place where I can configure the function keys to work as expected example the volume button opens the view source window.

Any advice on what I'm doing wrong or is it just incompatible?

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 15.1

Touch ID on the keyboard only works with Apple Silicon Macs (M1, etc.).

I was afraid of that. Any thoughts on the other function keys? for example how do I change brightness or adjust volume using those keys?
