CarPlay crashing when using Siri since iOS 18.1.1

Anyone else having issues with CarPlay and Siri since updating to 18.1.1? Prior to the update never had any issues with my iPhone 15 Pro.


Now CarPlay will run successfully if operated from the screen in the car or via my phone (using maps / music / WhatsApp / messages etc) but if I make a request using Siri with Apple Intelligence my car's entertainment system now goes black before resetting itself as if there is no phone connected.


Reconnecting the phone gets things working again but Siri requests consistently cause the system to crash. Anyone else experiencing similar?

This is a known issue with iOS 18 and Mazda, and you'll find a much longer thread about it here on Apple Discussions. I was REALLY hoping that 18.2 would finally solve this, but no--I upgraded yesterday, tried immediately, and Siri requests are still crashing CarPlay just the same. This, unfortunately, makes CarPlay a "hands on" interface, which is really unsafe when driving. FWIW, I have a 2020 CX-5, but this seems to be affecting Mazdas across all models and years.

I'm now running Mazda OS Version 74.00.324 NA N. I just upgraded today to iOS 18.4 and, as far as I can tell, all is still working fine.


For those who don't know how to find which OS version you're running in your Mazda, go to Settings > System > About > OS version on your screen. I have a 2020 CX-5, but this should work for models before and since with an infotainment system. What I don't know is whether there is one OS version that runs across all Mazda models and years. I believe Mazda infotainment got a big overhaul for the 2022 model year (or thereabouts). so perhaps those vehicles are running an altogehter different OS and number.

This has been happening since before 18.4 update on my Peugeot 2008 and is ongoing after update, iPhone SE 3rd generation wired link. Maps works perfectly until any interaction with Siri whereupon it crashes completely. Except however if I ask for direction to an address whereupon it crashes but then comes back with the directions requested, so just about usable. I have removed CarPlay settings link and reconnected to Peugeot as suggested but to no avail very annoying.
