MacBook Air M1 chip fixing , mail in service

Hi, Im just wondering my mac has a display damage and Im being told I have to pay the full ammount for me to get a kit to mail in my laptop and I might be subject to other fees, what if it cost more and I dont want to continue with fixing it?I have spoken to 3 people and they all sound unsure if I will be able to authorise them to fix it first after they provide me the actual ammount. Does anyone know how it works?,Iwas hoping to pay an inspection fee and send it to them, and Let the technician take a look at it, I want to first see if its worth fixing or I'd just get a new one?
