Face ID not working on my iPhone 16 after iOS 18.2.1 update

I had update ios 18.2.1 and then Face ID not working. I have tried to reset Face ID and so existing Face ID erased. After this I tried to setup Face ID newly, but am getting ‘FaceID is not available Try setting up Face ID later’

Folks, had the same FaceID issue after the iOs 18.2.1 update and searched for this and came across a youtube video about what to do after the iOs 18 update and the guy suggested rebooting the phone by quicly pressing the vol up, then the vol down keys and then pressing and holding down the side button until the phone turned off to reset the phone. You need to press in sequence quickly. Well...it worked Face ID is back! I was very sceptical but here I am letting you know to give it a try. It is a definite software issue!

Same issue here, phone worked perfectly before the update. Used Face ID to start the update. As soon as it was done my phone “detected a problem with Face ID “ and it hasn’t worked since. I tried all of the suggestions in this tread along with multiple you tube videos. Talked with two Apple Customer support folks. The first one said I would need to take it to the store, I chose a Best Buy. The guys there were super nice but could not help. They had seen it before. I did the Apple support chat again who set me up with an appointment at the Apple Store. 45 min drive there. Waited for 40 more mins for them to walk out not even look at my phone and tell me that I need a new camera and it would cost $169 but since my phone was so old (iPhone 12 purchased through Verizon 3 years ago) they would suggest purchasing a new phone. The diagnostic test performed by Apple support through chat showed hardware issue and Apple stands firm that the update did not cause it, just pointed it out. Funny how it worked perfectly fine until after the update


I was then told if I did not want to pay for the new true depth camera, or purchase a new phone I could still use my phone just would not be able to use Face ID.


So good luck guys, seems we paid a a lot of money for a phone with defects that was brought out after an update.


Should have stuck with Samsung.

After multiple times, powering down and powering back on, by facial recognition finally started working. I did use the method of shutdown described in this thread, volume up, volume down, hold right button. But it took several times. Each time the set up would allow me a little bit more of the green ring completed as it captured my facial features. I charged the phone completely. tonight I tried set up just once more and strangely it took it…

I am having the same issue as a result of the update and hope Apple can get on top of this quickly. I was doing work on my phone this morning prior in doing the update with Face I.D working with no issues. Then i had time to do the update and now since i get the same message. Apple Support done a remote diagnostics and advised me to go into the genius bar.
